The Board met 4 times in the past financial year. All boardmembers attended these meeting.
There were 5 missions. Apart from Spiti in North-India, MCC has been working at 4 locations in Nepal (Kathmandu valley, Chitwan, Pokhara and Dharan); 3.800 children were medically checked and treated by 53 volunteers. In March 2007 a first scientific follow-up examination took place at various locations in Nepal.

Close cooperation was realized with the University of Wageningen, Academic Hospital in Groningen and the University of Vancouver (Canada).
A new version of the Medical handbook has appeared. Information to and coaching of caretakers as well as the programme of training and education of the local healthcare workers was expanded further.

In the period of review 2.900 deprived children were medically checked and treated at various locations in North India and Nepal. During 2006 the second service of  medical care: “Health Promotion” (information to and coaching of care takers and older children) was started by MCC.
Apart from the two services (medical checks and health promotion) the education and training of local healthcare workers was set up.

In 2006 standard lists for the purchase and use of medicines were introduced. Medical reports were made of each mission. The activities of future missions to the locations concerned were based on these reports.
In the same year a computer programme was developed by volunteer Luc Coffeng. This programme by which data of checked children are filed was successfully used in Chitwan for the first time. It is the intention to expand this programme in the course of the time.

The activities in the abovementioned areas will be continued in the years to come. At a certain moment, however, they will be taken over by local authorities, whether or not in cooperation with other international organisations.

In 2006 a total number of 74 people from the Netherlands, England and Germany took part in missions. Owing to their selfless efforts and unbridled energy these missions were a great success.
The Board owes many thanks to them!

Lately many initiatives have been taken. Not only concerning the organisation, but also in fundraising. A website has been developed, which is pre-eminently a medium to communicate with sponsors, volunteers and to those who are interested in our work.
Moreover, a procedure for recruitment and selection of volunteers was drawn up.

In the period of review some information and training evenings took place, meant for people who are interested in taking part in missions.

A milestone: On 1st November 2005 the foundation Medical Checks for Children (MCC) has been established. Initiator Inès von Rosenstiel, paediatrician, asked a group of idealistic supporters to help shaping and professionalizing MCC.

Since 2000 dr. Inès von Rosenstiel has gained extensive experience in organizing and providing medical assistance for deprived children. From 2001 to 2005 there have been six medical missions to Nepal in cooperation with drs. Susanna Lucker of Balbalika Nepal Foundation. In order to create possibilities outside Nepal for this type of medical checks, it was decided to found Medical Checks for Children.

After an explorative mission to Mongolia in November 2004 by two enthusiastic explorers (Annie Perkins and Inès von Rosenstiel) an increasing insight was gained into the method of working and desired organisation.

For aid to deprived children global effort is required. Apart from NGO’s and private foundations, MCC is unique in focussing on children, who have to do without local regular healthcare,  and their caretakers. Streetchildren, orphans, children in prison, refugee children and children in very remote areas.

During the 2 medical missions in November 2005 MCC was able to provide medical assistance to 950 Nepalese and Tibetan children. Owing to their great efforts and inexhaustible energy an enthusiastic and very motivated group of volunteers from the Netherlands, England and Germany (16 altogether) these missions have been very successful.
Many thanks to all of them!

In order to make possible medical assistance to an even bigger group of deprived children, our efforts will reach beyond country borders. MCC ‘s help is direct, small-scale and personal.
We count on you for your support.
