In 2005 and 2006 five missions were undertaken. A total of 2900 underprivileged children have received medical checks and treatment at different locations in Nepal and Northern India. Besides curative treatment for acute illnesses, in 15% of the children examined, all of the children were screened for iron deficiency anaemia. At the same time MCC’s second service, promotion of health (informing and supervising care-givers and older children) was visibly implemented.
Along with their basic services, a start was made at various locations with the instruction and training of local health workers and the general transfer of knowledge. Empowerment of and cooperation with the local ‘experts’ and the available capacities was initiated. Also, analyses were made of the local healthcare in the different locations in order to reach a ‘community diagnosis’ and to fine-tune the health interventions to the needs of the community.

In 2007, 3800 children were medically checked and treated at five missions (one at Spiti in Northern India and 4 missions in Nepal, Kathmandu Valley, Chitwan, Pokara and Dharan).
In March 2007 there was the first scientific follow-up mission in several locations in Nepal. In Spiti a dental program was added to the existing MCC program. In both Spiti and Nepal MCC is engaged in an active campaign to combat worm infection along with screening and treating anaemia and screening for malnutrition and administering multivitamins. At locations in Spiti, Kathmandu Valley and Chitwan in Nepal, MCC has established basic infrastructure that will allow these locations to make use of MCC services and achieve lasting results for the health of the children. |
