MCC has a unique and effective operating procedure and makes use of 2 tools developed by itself, namely the MCC Medical Carrousel and the MCC Analysis of the Local Situation (ALS) model (described below). Furthermore MCC creates a platform for (young) doctors, nurses, paramedics and other team members to gain (work) experience in other cultures, in other countries.
The MCC Medical Carrousel Model
The MCC carrousel can, in a short space of time, gather extensive information on the basal state of health of a child. In the MCC carrousel, the children (and their care-givers) are processed at a number of stations at each of which specific data is collected.
This data is recorded in the CRF (case report form) and at conclusion entered into a specially developed computer program. This medical carrousel has an integral approach to:
Service a: health service (screening and curative treatment of the individual child);
Service b: health promotion (education and guidance of care-givers);
Service c: health education and training (schooling and training of local health workers and transfer of knowledge).
The MCC ALS ModeL (Analysis of the Local Situation)
The MCC ALS model comprises a checklist, so that it is possible within a short space of time, to analyse the living conditions of the children in relation to health services in the location. Furthermore, an insight is gained into the most common illnesses, complaints and health threats in a specific region. Because of this, the child and his state of health in the context of his environment are positioned. Through this analysis, MCC is able with or without support from other (local) bodies to give:
-
Provide training to care-givers.
-
Initiate secondary prevention.
-
Initiate health improvement activities.
-
Initiate schooling/training of local health workers.
